A Few Words

Family Therapy

We, as human beings, are relational creatures, meaning that from the moment we are born, we exist within relationship systems which we internalize into our selves and bodies. The first system that frames us and within which we operate and connect is the family system.

In family therapy, the goal is for all voices within the family system to be heard, so that the concerns, needs, and roles of each member can be deeply understood and new possibilities can open up for their communication and cohabitation. The therapy process focuses on creating an environment of safety and trust for every family member.

The thoughts, feelings, and general experiences and realities of each member are equally valuable and are heard without judgment in the dialogue that opens with the psychologist.

Any type of family (nuclear, single-parent, blended, LGBTQ+, etc.) can engage in therapy with all its members, or with combinations of them (for example, parents or guardians may come together, and in a different session, children may attend as well, or one parent or guardian with the child, etc.), always in agreement with the psychologist.

Family therapy is especially helpful in critical periods for an individual member or (potentially inevitably) for the entire family.

Some of the issues for which people seek family therapy include:

Conflicts between members
Transitions and changes in the family (arrival of a new member, children's adolescence, losses, etc.)
Divorce – Separation
Mixed families
Issues with families of origin
Loss
Illness, etc.
