A Few Words

Couple’s Therapy

Each couple thinks, feels, and makes decisions in their own unique way. In couple's therapy, partners can be heard, feel accepted, understand their individual and shared needs and differences, and resolve conflicts.

Each person enjoys companionship with a desire for contact, closeness, and a relationship with another person, experiencing satisfaction from this connection. Often, in life, a couple "loses" itself in the complexity of the relationship and circumstances, facing difficult moments in which people often feel that their partner is not providing support during times of discomfort.

Couple's psychotherapy focuses on both verbal and non-verbal interaction between partners, so that the roles, behavior patterns, and thought processes can be explored. Partners understand how their personal history, personality, motivations, environmental influences, and life circumstances affect their communication with one another.

The result of the dialogue between the couple and the therapist, within the safe environment of the therapeutic framework, is often described as a reduction in discomfort between the partners and the creation of new ideas for action.

Common issues for which couples seek counseling and therapy include:

Conflicts
Co-habitation problems
Separation/Divorce
Violence/Abuse
Gender differences in reactions
Transitional phases
Loss
Trust issues
Emotional and sexual distance
Relationships with families of origin etc.
